World Cup Qualification in 1990
The US men's national soccer team qualified for their first World Cup in 40 years in 1990, marking a major milestone in the country's soccer history.
The 1989 CONCACAF Gold Cup served as qualification tournament and the United States finished runners-up by virtue of one goal and qualified for their first World Cup in forty years by beating Trinidad and Tobago in their last game by 1–0, with a goal dubbed "The Shot Heard around the World".
The 1990 World Cup itself wasn’t a very successful tournament as the USMNT got beaten by home country Italy, Czechoslovakia and Austria and exited the tournament after the group phase.
CONCACAF Gold Cup 1991
The US men's soccer team has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup seven times (in 1991, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2013, and 2021), establishing their dominance in the region and showcasing the growth and improvement of US soccer. Their first win in 1991 marked a historic moment in US soccer history.
After winning all 3 of their group matches, team USA beat Mexico 2-0 in the semi-final and Honduras in the final after penalty kicks.
World Cup 2002 Quarter Finals

World Cup 2014 Round of 16
In 2014, the US men's national team had a strong showing in the World Cup held in Brazil. They made it out of their group, which included Germany, Portugal, and Ghana, and reached the Round of 16 before being eliminated by Belgium.
In the 1994, 2010 and 2022 World Cups they also managed to get into the Round of 16 again, only to be narrowly beaten by Brazil (1994), Ghana (2010) and The Netherlands (2022)

The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) won the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which was held from July 10 to August 1, 2021. The tournament was held in the United States, and it was the 16th edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
After beating Jamaica in the Quarter Finals and Qatar in the semi-finals, Team USA reached their 12th CONCACAF Gold Cup Final
In the final, the USMNT faced Mexico and won 1-0 in extra time, with a deciding goal from Miles Gordon Robinson. With this victory, the USMNT won their first CONCACAF Gold Cup title since 2017 and their eighth overall. The win also secured their place in the 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup.
